Nabekura zazensōNature

Discovered in 2001, and named after Mt. Nabekura, Symplocarpus nabekuraensis is a new species of mizubasho (skunk cabbage). It inhabits moist depressions on the lower part of the mountains where snow will linger, blooming here around the end of June. The major difference from the more common members of the zazensō family is that the flowers and leaves open at the same time.
