Beech forest in HabiroyamaNature

Located about one kilometer southeast of Nashidaira Tōge pass. During Japan’s period of rapid economic growth, clearing of forests was being promoted; here, though, the natural beech forest was protected by the local people, who opposed the development. During the spring thaw, there is a beautiful contrast between the morning light and the new shoots on the trees, drawing many photographers.
