Mt. KuroiwaNature

In spring, katakuri flowers bloom across its slopes, while Luehdorfia japonica and Luehdorfia puziloi butterflies flit around the flowers. Mt. Kuroiwa is, in fact, one of the few places where these two members of the Luehdorfia genus are found together. Animals such as the Forest Green Tree Frog and Japanese black salamander live near the summit, and because these animals and important plants such as viola vaginata are found here, in 1971 the entire mountain was designated a national natural monument.
