Having lived in Kijimadaira for over 20 years, I have been involved in the Shin-etsu Trail as a guide since its opening. Rather than just mountaineering, my passion lies in “walking on long-distance trails as a journey.” My experience includes section-hiking the Appalachian Trail, trekking Tasmania’s Overland Track twice, and completing the 800km Camino de Santiago (French Way) in Autumn 2025. I love nature. The ocean, mountains, rivers, lakes, streams… I can be found just about anywhere. If only I could fly, I might conquer the Earth?!
My journey as a nature guide began in Shiretoko. It all started with a live-in nature guiding job. Since then, I’ve been leading forest walks with a focus on enjoying the experience together with the participants. I also work as a cycling guide, but walking through the forest is truly something special. I make a point of getting down to the children’s eye level, and I love programs that take our time. A child’s perspective is truly amazing!

It’s hard to pick a favorite—every part of the Shin-etsu Trail is wonderful.
