In mid-May 2023, a representative director and a secretariat staff member from the Shinetsu Trail Club (STC) visited the Southern Appalachian Trail (AT) in the United States.
With the full cooperation of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), the representative director and a staff member from the Shin-etsu Trail Club (STC) visited the Southern Appalachian Trail (AT) in the United States to meet with staff from various ATC departments and members of the Konnarock Trail Crew, Georgia A.T. Club, Carolina Mountain Club, and Roanoke A.T. Club, all of which are volunteer trail maintenance groups, met with them and made site visits to various locations.
During the trip, we learned a great deal about volunteer recruitment and training, trail maintenance, visitor use management, and how to sustain the organizations that maintain the trails, all of which are important to the future of the STC.
Some portions of our visit are also posted on ATC’s official blog.
It has been exactly 20 years since STC last visited AT in 2003. It was a surprise to see Kimura and two members of the Georgia A.T. Club, who have been active since then, again.
We would like to thank Ms. Laura Belleville and Ms. Sarah Adams of ATC and other related departments for their great support during our visit.
We will continue our exchange with ATC members and deepen our friendship through the exchange of information.
